How to prevent other users from making changes

Use Limit Access to stop a child's profile from changing chores, rewards and settings. Add a PIN so your child can't switch to a parent's profile on a shared device.

What Limit Access does

A profile with Limit Access can:

  • See and complete the chores assigned to them, and chores assigned to no one.
  • See their rewards balance.
  • Change app settings on their device, such as Language.

A profile with Limit Access can't:

  • Add, edit, copy or delete chores. They see "Your profile is not allowed to make changes." if they try.
  • Use the + button, or add rooms, tasks or custom rewards.
  • Open Home Settings, Custom Rewards, Rooms & Areas, My Homes or Join a Home.
  • Settle or adjust balances, or flag tasks as incomplete.
  • Uncheck a task someone else completed.

Step 1: Turn on Limit Access

  1. Tap Settings at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap My Homes, then tap your home.
  3. Tap the three dots on your child's card, then Edit.
  4. Turn on Limit Access.
  5. Tap Save.

If Limit Access is greyed out, the member is a Household Manager. Turn off Household Manager first. A home always keeps at least one Household Manager.

Step 2: Set a PIN

Without a PIN, anyone can switch from a child's profile to a parent's profile from the name at the top of the Home tab.

  1. Tap Settings, then Home Settings.
  2. Tap PIN (Optional).
  3. Enter exactly 4 digits.
  4. Tap Save.

Now, when a profile with Limit Access tries to switch to another member, Chore Boss asks for the PIN. The PIN belongs to the home, so it works on every device in the home. Switching away from a parent's profile doesn't ask for the PIN.

Forgot your PIN?

  1. On the PIN screen, tap Forgot PIN?.
  2. Tap Yes to confirm.

Chore Boss emails the PIN to the person who created the home. You can also see the PIN in Home Settings on a parent's profile.

Troubleshooting

  • "A minimum of 4 digits is required" The PIN must be exactly 4 numbers.
  • "Invalid Household Pin" The PIN you entered is wrong. Try again, or tap Forgot PIN?.
  • "Unable to send PIN recovery email. Please try again later." Check your internet connection and try again.
  • My child still sees the parent's chores: check that your child's name is shown at the top of the Home tab.
