How to sign a child into Chore Boss

Your child can see and complete their chores on their own phone or tablet. Your child doesn't need an account or an email address.

Step 1: Create your child's member profile

Skip this step if your child already has a profile.

  1. On your phone, tap Settings at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap My Homes, then tap your home.
  3. Tap Add Member.
  4. Enter your child's Name.
  5. Turn on Limit Access so your child can't change chores, rewards or settings.
  6. Leave Earn Rewards on if your child should earn allowance or points.
  7. Tap Save.

Step 2: Join from your child's device

  1. On your phone, tap Settings, then My Homes, then your home.
  2. On your child's card, tap Share Invite Code.
  3. On your child's device, install Chore Boss and tap Join a Home on the welcome screen.
  4. Tap Scan and point the camera at the QR code on your phone, or type the code and tap Join.

That's it: no sign-in on your child's device. It stays on your child's profile and shows only your child's view. Your child's card on your phone now lists the device (for example Maudi's device) and when it was last seen. See How to join a home with an invite code.

If your child has their own email, Google or Apple account, they can sign in with it first and then join the same way.

Remove a device

If a device is lost or handed down:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings, then My Homes, then your home.
  2. On your child's card, tap Remove next to the device.

The device leaves the home right away. To add it again, send a new invite.

Keep your child on their own profile

With Limit Access on, your child's profile can't add, edit or delete chores, and can't open the home's settings. On a device that joined as your child, switching to another member asks a grown-up to press and hold, or for the PIN if you set one. On a shared phone, your child can still switch to another member from the name at the top of the Home tab. To stop that, set a 4-digit PIN:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings, then Home Settings.
  2. Tap PIN (Optional).
  3. Enter 4 digits and tap Save.

Now, when a profile with Limit Access tries to switch to another member, Chore Boss asks for the PIN. See How to prevent other users from making changes.

Troubleshooting

  • My child sees other people's chores: check that your child's name is shown at the top of the Home tab. A profile that is not a Household Manager sees only its own chores and chores assigned to no one.
  • "Your profile is not allowed to make changes." This is expected on a profile with Limit Access.
  • I forgot the PIN: on the PIN screen, tap Forgot PIN?. Chore Boss emails the PIN to the person who created the home.
