How to create a chore

A chore is a room or area plus one or more tasks, with a schedule and the people who do it. For example, a "Kitchen" chore could include Wash dishes and Take out trash.

You need a profile without Limit Access to create chores.

Create a chore

Tap + at the bottom of the screen, then tap Add Chore.
Tap Select Room / Area and pick a room.
Tap Add Tasks and pick one or more tasks.
Check the Chore Name (Optional). It is filled in with the room's name, and you can change it.
Under Assignments, tap the people who should do the chore.
Pick an Assignment Type (see below).
Set the Reward, if you want to give one.
Set the Recurrence and the Next Due Date.
Turn on any extras you need: Repeats During the Day, Set Reminder, Notes / Instructions or Photo Required.
Tap Save.

Assignment types

Shared: any assigned person can complete the chore for everyone. If no one is selected, the chore is visible to all members.
Individual: each person gets their own copy of the chore and completes it separately.
Rotate: assigned members take turns. Rotation is a premium feature. See How to set up a rotating chore.

Reward

Enter the Reward Amount, or Points if your home uses points.
Choose when it is earned:
- Completion: earned every time the chore is completed.
- Weekly: the amount is the total for a week, shared across the week's completions.
If an assigned person has Earn Rewards turned off, you see "No one will earn this reward".

Recurrence

Tap Recurrence to choose How Often?:

Once: due on one date only.
As Needed: no fixed schedule.
Daily: every day, or every few days.
Weekly: every week or every few weeks, on the days you pick under Which Days?.
Monthly: pick a Monthly Type:
- Day of Month: specific dates, such as the 1st and the 15th.
- Week and Day: for example the first Saturday, using Which Week? and Which Days?.

A new chore starts as Daily.

The Next Due Date must match the schedule. If it doesn't, the app tells you the next date that does.

Times during the day

Turn on Repeats During the Day to schedule the same chore at several times each day, such as 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Tap Add Time to add another time.
Each time shows as its own entry on the Home tab and is completed separately.
Reminders go off at each time.
The chore screen lists the times under Daily Times.

This is a premium feature.

Reminders

Turn on Set Reminder and choose a time under Remind At. If the chore repeats during the day, reminders use those times instead.

Notes and photo proof

Notes / Instructions: anything the person should know, shown on the chore screen under Notes.
Photo Required: the chore isn't complete until someone adds a photo. This is a premium feature. See How to require photo proof for a chore.

Troubleshooting

"A Room/Area Selection is Required": pick a room before tapping Save.
"At least one task is required": add at least one task.
"This date doesn't match the recurrence schedule.": change the Next Due Date to the date the message suggests, or change the schedule.
"Your profile is not allowed to make changes.": the selected profile has Limit Access. Switch to a parent's profile.
The upgrade screen opens when you tap Add Chore: your home already has 5 chores on the free plan.
