Chore Boss comes with 25 built-in rooms and areas, each with its own tasks.
You can hide the ones you don't use and add your own.
You need a profile without Limit Access to change rooms and tasks.
Open your rooms and areas
- Tap the Settings tab.
- Under Current Home, tap Rooms & Areas.
The Manage Rooms & Areas screen lists every room with its number of tasks.
Use Search rooms & areas ... to find one.
Add a room or area
- On Manage Rooms & Areas, tap Add Room/Area.
You can also tap + at the bottom of the screen, then Add Room/Area.
- Enter a Name.
- Tap the icon to pick an emoji.
- Tap Save.
While creating a chore, you can also tap Add next to the search box in the room list.
Add a task to a room
- On Manage Rooms & Areas, tap the room.
- Tap Add Task.
- Enter a Name and tap Save.
While creating a chore, you can also tap Add next to the search box in the task list.
Each task name can only be used once in a room.
Custom rooms and custom tasks are a premium feature.

Hide a room you don't use
- On Manage Rooms & Areas, tap the eye icon next to the room.
Or open the room, tap the three dots at the top right, then tap Hide area.
- To bring it back, tap the eye icon again, or tap Show area.
Hidden rooms are not offered when you create a chore or a quick task.
The room list shows how many are hidden, for example "2 hidden".
Chores you already created in a hidden room keep working.
Change or delete your own rooms and tasks
Built-in rooms and tasks can't be renamed or deleted.
To use a different name for a built-in room, hide it and add your own room instead.
For rooms and tasks you added:
- Rename a room: open the room, tap the three dots, then tap Edit.
- Delete a room: open the room, tap the three dots, then tap Delete.
The app warns "Associated items will also be deleted!".
- Rename a task: open the room and tap the pencil icon next to the task.
- Delete a task: open the room and tap the trash icon next to the task.
Troubleshooting
- "Task with this name already exists for this area": pick a different name, or use the task that's already there.
- "A Name is Required": enter a name before tapping Save.
- The upgrade screen opens when you tap Add Room/Area or Add Task: custom rooms and tasks need premium.
- A room is missing when you create a chore: it may be hidden.
Show it again from Rooms & Areas.
- There's no Rooms & Areas in Settings: it shows only when you are signed in and the selected profile doesn't have Limit Access.
